A few months ago, VoiceOfRzn threw a show for the first time at a little-known, out-of-the-way, speakeasy, Columbus’s Troubadour Club. We initially chose this venue because upon an accidental visit there last summer, we really felt a special vibe to this venue, something out of a 1920′s Harlem Jazz Era. As a consulting company, one of the clients i’m most proud of having the opportunity to represent through VoiceOfRzn are the guys over at Arris Productions, a production team focusing on Music Videos, Film, and Commercials, run by my good friends Danny Rogers and Ronnell Elkins. Don’t sleep on these guys if you are in need of professional, high quality visual projects that break the mode. Their credits include over 20 Music videos, Film Festival Award winning Short films, Reality TV shows, and several Independent full features.Recently, Arris has undertaken an Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign to help finance their upcoming film project “FRiEND” along with partners over at Step Off Productions and co-producers at Spook Show Entertainment. The film chronicles the the various sides of bullying from both the prospective of the Bully & the Bullied, exposing the vicious cycle of Child abuse & Bullying in the hopes of educating youth on the cause and effects of such behavior. VoiceOfRzn represented, Champion Spoken-word artist turned Emcee, HuntorPrey leads his release off with the stunning David Damen-directed “This Way” video (Ill Poetic “Gone”, “The Enemies You Keep”). “This song is best described as CNN through the perspective of a 20-something black man in the midst of a very real recession. It’s kind of a precursor to an EP that represents the heart and struggle of my region, but also the soul that lies inside. Even the most mundane events are filled with hope and pain” explains Huntor. “I can’t help but see life cinematically.

PRESS RELEASE - OHIO RAPPER ILL POETIC SIGNS LABEL DEAL WITH EMPIRE DISTRIBUTION, PREPS NEW PROJECT FOR FALL 2012 

Ill Poetic, the prolific Ohio emcee/producer, has joined forces with EMPIRE Distribution, signing a digital distribution deal for his Definition Music imprint. On October 16, 2012 he releases his long awaited new EP Synesthesia: The Yellow Movement via this Definition Music/Empire Distribution platform.

Hip-Hop fans may recognize the name Ill Poetic from his recently buzzed-about video “Gone”, though others may remember him for his 2007 national debut The World is Ours. A lot has happened in five years, as Ill Poetic kept busy expanding his sound and reach. He went on to create 3 mash-up records (gaining national acclaim from sources such as Portishead and elite media outlets), and production under such national acts as Slum Village, Illogic & Blitz the Ambassador, as well as sound-design and score an award-winning independent film. All the while, he continued touring; building a foundation of loyal fans and respect from his musical peers. With the support of EMPIRE’s distribution and marketing machine, he is looking to showcase his sound and voice to a wider audience.

EMPIRE has been behind many of the last years’ stellar Hip-Hop and R&B releases, including Kendrick Lamar‘s “Section.80″, Snoop Dogg‘s “Stoner’s EP”, Phonte‘s “Charity Starts At Home”, Crooked I‘s “In None We Trust”,ScHoolboy Q’s “Setbacks” and The Foreign Exchange‘s “Authenticity”. With a strong roster including Fat Joe, N.O.R.E.,  9th Wonder, Too Short and Slum Village, Ill Po will be in good company at EMPIRE.

Bravely undertaking a completely new creative process for Synesthesia: The Yellow Movement, Ill Poetic has meticulously crafted a unique new sound, shedding the typical hip-hop producer aesthetic he was once known for. Inspired by his hometown’s Ohio Funk legacy, he dives flawlessly into rich and layered production, live instrumentation, vocalists, talk boxes, and exciting new song-writing structures.

Backed by this bold and innovative sound, Ill Poetic has begun to push his career in a fearless new direction, creating an EP he describes as “a journey into the highs and lows of following your dreams; a soundtrack to the imagination”.

Including Carlos Fisher (Drums/Ill Atmospherics), Jay Bybo Stevens (Keys/The Sound), Angelica Lee (Vocals/L.E.S Crew), Evan Oberla (Trombone/The Evan Oberla Project).  It was something serious! Had a lot of fun working with The OHHA board, BottomLine Management, and Power 107.5 on this project.
